Going Batty at the Nature Center

Going Batty consists of weekly docent-led talks and observation of hundreds of native California Myotis bats. The program takes place only during warmer months when migratory California Myotis bats take residence in the nature center’s bat boxes. We typically start offering talks in late April or early May, and end any time between September and November depending on the weather and bat behavior.

Guests of Cachuma Lake Recreation Area are welcome to visit our bat boxes at any time during their visit. The bats typically come out about 30 minutes after sunset and are most active here during the summer.

ADMISSION: Donation

There is a $10 per vehicle county park entry fee except for Annual Day Use permit holders.

*Program times vary by week depending on the time of sunset*

Meet in front of the Nature Center for a Docent led talk and Q&A.

After learning about the local bats, we’ll move to the Native Garden to watch as the bats drop out of the bat boxes to feed.

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening through September 5th, 2026

Movie: Once Upon a Time in Cinema

The Solvang Film Society will join several small theaters around the country to celebrate ART HOUSE THEATER DAY.

We will be presenting:

ONCE UPON A TIME IN A CINEMA

Once Upon a Time in a Cinema is a 2026 Irish comedy-drama directed by David Gleeson, set during a chaotic Friday night at a small-town cinema in 1984 Ireland, following owner Earl Clancy (Colin Morgan) as he deals with a series of disasters while contemplating selling the business. The film, a love letter to the cinema experience, unfolds in real-time over the course of a single movie screening, featuring a cast including Colin Morgan, Calam Lynch, and Niamh Cusack. It premiered this year at the Dublin Film Festival. We are very proud to be one of the theaters in the United States premiering this film.

The film will begin at 8pm. If it sells out, I will add another showing at 5:30pm

Ticket price at $10 and allow everyone to bring their own snacks

Please contact us at solvangfilmsociety@gmail.com for ticket information. You can pre-purchase tickets using Venmo @solvangfilmsociety.

Memory, Coffee & Compassion Support Group

Meets First & Third Mondays

May 4 & 18 - June 1 & 15 - July 6 & 20 - August 3 & 17

Attendance is complimentary

Caring for someone with memory loss can be hard, and it’s not always easy to know where to turn. That’s why I host Memory Coffee & Compassion gatherings—free, relaxed get-togethers where caregivers can share experiences, ask questions, and support one another.

Whether you’re caring for someone with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or another memory challenge, you don’t have to go through it alone. These groups are meant to give you a place to recharge, learn from others who understand, and feel encouraged in your caregiving journey.

Our motto, “Walk. Trot. Heal.” captures the powerful role horses continue to play in the healing journeys of our riders. At the Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Program, we are more than an organization—we are a connected, compassionate community committed to changing lives.

In 2026, we’re proud to serve nearly 70 students each week and support more than 300 individuals annually. Every ride builds confidence, independence, and a sense of possibility that extends far beyond the arena.

This work is only possible with your support. By joining us at our event or making a donation, you help ensure that every rider has access to the care, connection, and healing they deserve. We look forward to welcoming you.

Become an event sponsor!

We offer a variety of sponsorship options to meet your needs. For more information, please contact Jillian Knight at jillian@syvtherapeuticriding.org

Please note that the sponsorship forms must be submitted by June 1st to be included in the invitations.

Our students, staff, volunteers, and horses thank you all for your wonderful support of our program.

Exhibit by The Tuesday Painters - April 24 - October 12, 2026 - Last Day of the Exhibit

The Tuesday Painters are a group of passionate plein air artists painting the Santa Ynez Valley in a variety of media, including watercolor, oil, and acrylic paints, as well as dry media such as charcoal and pastel.

Santa Ynez Valley Views by the Tuesday Painters showcases the energy and authenticity of paintings created directly in the heart of nature. The paintings in this show encompass many artistic styles and media, for each artist interprets the outdoors in their own unique way. Using oil, watercolor, gouache, pencil and/or pastel, the Tuesday Painters capture the sensory aliveness of our region, documenting its scenic beauty - from rolling hills, rivers, and lakes to picturesque vineyards.

Contributing artists include Lee Barranco, Susan Belloni, Deborah Breedon, Audrey Cavalier, Chris Chapman, William Dunaway, John Iwerks, Sally Jones, Renee Kelleher, Sheryl Knight, George Kreutz, Katy Smith, Barbara Young, and Margaret Youngblood.

Inspired by a lifelong love of nature, these artists believe the beauty of nature comes in many forms, and that there is great benefit in nurturing, protecting, and celebrating it.

Most of the artwork included in this collection is available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting both the contributing artists and the California Nature Art Museum.

  • Culinary delights, wine, and beer, from traditional Danish treats like æbleskiver and kringle to award-winning wines and craft brews from the Santa Ynez Valley.

Whether strolling beneath illuminated windmills, warming up with a cup of gløgg, or sharing laughter at a festive event, every corner of Solvang radiates welcoming holiday spirit.

Julefest Makers Market

Wednesday’s, December 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23, 2026

Each December, Solvang Park transforms into a festive open-air bazaar that feels straight out of a classic European holiday scene. The Solvang Julefest Makers Market is fashioned after traditional European night markets, blending old-world ambiance with the unique culture and craftsmanship of the Central Coast.

Under twinkling lights and the cool winter sky, visitors wander between stalls of local artisans, makers, and crafters offering:

  • Handmade holiday gifts and crafts — from small-batch jewelry and textile art to woodwork and ceramics.

Its starry-night setting and open-air design are key reasons this event resonates with visitors and residents alike when compared to iconic European seasonal markets.

Solvang Julefest Parade

Celebrate the magic of the season at the beloved Solvang Julefest Parade, where Danish heritage and small-town charm come together in spectacular fashion. Beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday morning December 5th, parade floats and festive entries wind their way through Solvang’s picturesque village streets, transforming the heart of town into a vibrant celebration of community and culture.

With 400+ participants and more than 50 contingents, the parade is a joyful showcase of marching bands, equestrian groups, costumed performers, local organizations, vintage vehicles, themed floats, and spirited community groups. The sounds of live music and applause fill the air as participants stroll and cruise down Solvang’s iconic main avenues, framed by Danish-style architecture and holiday décor.

The Julefest Parade is more than a procession — it’s a celebration of togetherness. Families line the sidewalks early to secure their viewing spots, children wave at performers, and visitors experience the warm hospitality that defines Solvang during the holidays. The event beautifully blends Scandinavian traditions with Central Coast spirit, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and uniquely local.

True to Danish tradition, the parade invites guests to embrace “hygge” — the cozy, joyful feeling of connection and comfort that defines the season. From the festive floats to the friendly faces in the crowd, every moment is designed to bring warmth to your holiday celebration.

And no Julefest Parade would be complete without a special appearance from Mr. Claus himself. After the parade concludes, guests have the opportunity to meet Santa, take photos, and share holiday wishes — a perfect ending to a magical morning in Solvang.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning guest, the Julefest Parade captures the heart of Solvang’s European-inspired holiday tradition and showcases why this village celebration stands out on the national stage.

  • A lively, strollable setting that mirrors the interactive and community-centered feel of European markets — where locals and visitors mingle, shop, and enjoy the holiday atmosphere together.

This market doesn’t just sell goods — it evokes a sense of timeless holiday tradition, with an afternoon-to-evening rhythm that encourages lingering under the stars, connecting with makers, and celebrating community. Its starry-night setting and open-air design are key reasons this event resonates with visitors and residents alike when compared to iconic European seasonal markets.

Plus, the Makers Market is intentionally paired with the Solvang Farmer’s Market, creating a festive “shop & stroll” experience that highlights both craftsmanship and local bounty. Together, they capture the authentic charm and spirited community vibe that makes Solvang a standout.

Wreaths Across America

This year, National Wreaths Across America Day will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2026. Join the more than two million volunteers and supporters who will gather to Remember, Honor and Teach at more than 5,200 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.

Ballard Cemetery - volunteers needed to place 929 wreaths on veteran’s graves.

On December 19, 2026 at 10:00 am (Wreath Placement Immediately Following Ceremony), Wreaths Across America will be at Oak Hill Cemetery Ballard, California to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.

The hope is to grow the program to include all the valley cemeteries in the future!

Volunteer with us as we honor our veterans throughout the year. From laying wreaths locally to leading a sponsorship group or coordinating a ceremony location, there are many ways to get involved!

Sponsor a veteran’s wreath in honor of or in memory of a loved one who served in our armed forces. Or, sponsor and allow us to designate a recipient among the millions of heroes who rest in honored glory.

Join us as the Solvang Chamber of Commerce kicks off another season of Susan Williams Music in the Park, a cherished summer tradition that brings residents and visitors together to enjoy live music in the heart of Solvang.

Formerly known as Music in the Park, the concert series was recently renamed in honor of Susan Williams, whose vision, leadership, and dedication were instrumental in establishing and growing the program into one of Solvang's most beloved community events.

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets and enjoy an evening of live entertainment, community spirit, and summer fun. We encourage residents and visitors alike to come out and support this wonderful community tradition.
